Focus on the Current Exhibition
Spend your visit focused on the objects and issues explored in our current exhibition. We can design this tour around thematic links to your interests.

Introduction to the Weisman Art Museum
For the first-time visitor, this is an overview of the museum building design, selections from the permanent collection of twentieth-century American art, and temporary exhibitions.

Architecture of the Weisman Art Museum
Visitors will focus on the Weisman’s distinctive building and learn about the design process of Frank Gehry, one of the world’s most celebrated architects. Visitors also will explore innovative and surprising artworks in the galleries.

Critical Response
Works of art are complex visual objects that invite multiple interpretations. Investigating art is an excellent way to build observation skills and practice high-level thinking, such as reasoning, perspective taking, problem finding, and metaphor making. This engaging, discussion-based tour gets visitors thinking about their thinking as they work together to puzzle out meanings from visual information.

Token Response / Element Prizes
What artwork catches your eye? Why? These Interactive gallery games encourage careful looking, personal connection, and reasoned responses about art in an engaging way while developing vocabulary about art. Fun for families and young visitors of all ages.

Artful Writing Workshop
The Weisman offers writing workshops rooted in exploring the galleries through writing and discussion. These workshops are limited to thirty visitors. Click here to learn more about Artful Writing and view online resources.

Drawing in the Galleries
Visitors are welcome to sketch and draw in the museum using dry media. Folding stools are available.

Art Study
With advance notice, Weisman objects not currently on exhibit can be requested from storage for viewing. Art Study visits are limited to ten visitors. For details, contact Laura Muessig at (612) 625-9672 or muess001@umn.edu.

Special requests
Guided tours in languages other than English may be arranged in advance. With advance notice, Weisman guides will adapt tours and workshops to best serve visitors with disabilities.

Become a tour guide
The Weisman welcomes those interested to join our volunteer tour guide group. Guides give tours to visitors of our exhibitions, building, and public art collection.
