Koyala in San Francisco: The Trenchcoat Series, 1994
by Rosanda Suetopka, Hopi/Navajo
The Hopi clowns called Koyalas appear in a number of Suetopka's works. These characters function in Hopi religous activities to bridge the gap between the sacred and the secular. Suetopka brings together elements of art and ceremony to everyday life, and in this case, to life in San Francisco.
