Parking

The museum garage, located beneath the museum, offers parking at an hourly fee. Call (612) 626-PARK for fee information and hours.

Restaurants

Many restaurants are within easy walking distance of the Weisman Art Museum. Cafeteria dining and vending machines are available at the adjacent Coffman Memorial Union on weekdays.

Photography, video taping, and sketching

Some works of art may be photographed or sketched in the museum. Photographers and artists must obtain a permission form at the museum information desk.

Public programs & education services

The museum offers a variety of lectures, tours, films, and special performances throughout the year. A schedule of these events is available at the information desk and is mailed to all museum members. All programs are free of charge unless otherwise noted.

Tours for groups of at least 15 may be scheduled in advance by calling (612) 625-9656. Tour reservations must be made at least three weeks in advance. The museum also offers services and materials for teachers and schools.

The Museum Store and the Hudson & Ione Walker Art Rental Gallery

Exhibition catalogs, books, t-shirts, postcards, and a wide variety of hand-crafted gifts and jewelry are available at the Museum Store, located near the main entrance on the first floor. The art rental program provides students, employees, and departments at the University of Minnesota an opportunity to live with original works of art. Call (612) 625-9495 for additional information.

Space rentals

The Dolly Fiterman Riverview Gallery and other spaces in the museum are available for evening and weekend receptions and dinners. The William G. Shepherd Room and the Billy and Jody Weisman Family Seminar Room are available for business meetings, seminars, and lectures. For information, call the events coordinator at (612) 625-9683.

Directions to the Weisman Art Museum

The Weisman Art Museum is located on the East Bank of the University's Minneapolis campus and is bordered by Coffman Memorial Union, Comstock dormitory, Washington Avenue, and the Mississippi River. The museum's public parking garage and lower entrance are located at 333 East River Road. The museum also may be entered from the parking ramp elevator. The main pedestrian entrance is located off the walkway of the Washington Avenue Bridge. Both the Weisman Art Museum and Museum Garage are handicapped accessible. A wheelchair is available at the museum information desk; handicapped parking spaces are conveniently located in the museum garage. Handicapped van parking is available adjacent to the entrance to the museum parking garage.

From Saint Paul

I-94W to Huron Avenue exit; left at Fulton to River Road; right on River Road for a half-mile to museum garage entrance

Northbound on I-35W

I-35W to U of M exit; keep right, taking East Bank exit; follow the exit ramp, crossing the Washington Avenue Bridge; take the first right to River Road and the museum garage entrance.

Southbound on I-35W

I-35W to Washington Avenue exit; left on Washington to Seven Corners; follow Cedar Avenue to the right; take first left, following signs leading to the University's East Bank; turn left and follow the ramp crossing the Washington Avenue Bridge; take first right to River Road and the museum garage entrance.

From the Western Suburbs

I-394 to I-94E to Huron Avenue exit; left at Fulton to River Road; right on River Road for a half-mile to museum garage entrance.

From Downtown Minneapolis

Take 4th Street east past the Metrodome, following signs to the East Bank; cross the Washington Avenue Bridge and take the first right to River Road and the museum garage entrance.

Public transportation

MTC Lines 16A, 16C and 2 lead to the Weisman Art Museum, the museum stop is in front of Coffman Union.
