Bequest of Hudson Walker from the Ione and Hudson Walker Collection

Lawrence wrote that this painting, like his other genre scenes, was "mostly autobiographical in content, pertaining to and about my own personal experiences...It is a street scene of peddlers selling dolls which dance. The doll dances as it is manipulated by an invisible string."
