Three Dimensional Tension Structures That (may) Fly - Instructor Stuart Allen
Day one of this workshop begins with Stuart Allen's introductory lecture that draws connections between contemporary sculpture and the practice of kitemaking and flying. Three Dimensional Tension Structures That (may) Fly - Instructor: Stuart Allen
The second, all-day session is a hands-on building exercise designed to encourage experimentation with lightweight tension structures. Using simple materials provided (paper, wood dowels, string), Stuart Allen teaches participants an unusual building technique based on material tension and compression. Participants will produce one or more free-form tension structures. Some of these will lend themselves to flight, others will not. Weather permitting, attempts will be made to fly some of the results. Participants should bring their own bag lunch. Beverages will be provided. TO REGISTER: CALL 612-625-9494. $15 fee includes both days. Limited to 20 participants.
