Lecture
Clarence W. Wigington: Leader, Activist, Architect
David Taylor
Sunday, November 19, 2:00 p.m.
David V. Taylor, professor of history and Dean of the General College
at the University of Minnesota, presents several aspects of the life
of Clarence Wigington, the first African-American municipal architect
in the nation. Municipal architect for the City of St. Paul from 1915
to 1949, Wigington designed numerous civic structures, three of which
are on the National Register of Historic Places. Drawing from his work
on a forthcoming biography of the architect, Dean Taylor will focus
on Wigington's community activities over and above his architectural
contributions
