classes research volunteer

University of Minnesota students can learn, earn credit, and gain valuable experience by volunteering as a tour guide or performing an internship.

Tour Guides
Students can learn about visual art and play a special teaching role at the Weisman by becoming a tour guide. Weisman tour guides offer interactive, informative, and fun tours to K-12 school groups, University classes, and other groups. Tour guides take a six-month training class that meets one night a week to learn about the museum’s collection, history, and building and about effective tour techniques. Credit can be arranged for taking the training class. Being a tour guide is a great way to learn and to gain professional experience. To find out more or to apply for the program, contact Judi Petkau, youth program coordinator, at (612) 625-9623 or petka001@umn.edu.

Internships
Internships pair a student with a Weisman staff member for at least a semester or for the summer. Interns work on real museum projects, gaining invaluable experience for future careers. Credit can be arranged. For more information and an application form, contact director of education Colleen Sheehy at (612) 625-9677 or sheeh001@umn.edu.
